54 typer av squash som du kan odla i din trädgård

Squash är det vanliga namnet på fyra arter i Cucurbita-släktet som hör till familjen Cucurbitaceae. Squash har sitt ursprung i Amerika. De kännetecknas av enkönade blommor, håriga stjälkar och en köttig frukt med ett läderaktigt svål. Squash är en typ av lösbär som kallas pepo. Squasherna varierar mycket i former, storlekar och färger.

Sommarsquash och vintersquash

Squash delas primärt in i två typer som är sommarsquash och vintersquash. Man kan tro att de har fått sitt namn baserat på säsongen de är tillgängliga men i verkligheten finns båda typerna tillgängliga året runt. Sommarsquash kallas det eftersom deras frukt är redo att skördas under varma sommarmånader, medan frukten av vintersquash inte är redo att skördas förrän i slutet av sommaren.

6. Buttercup Squash
